Patient Care
Dr. Patterson's clinical interests include consultation liaison
for trauma patients, adjustment to burn trauma, rehabilitation,
pain control, and ethics consultation.
Research
His research interests include treating acute pain, long-term adjustment
to burn injuries and other forms of trauma, and using hypnosis and
virtual reality for pain control.
Teaching
Dr. Patterson teaches biosocial models of pain and rehabilitation,
psychological adjustment to burn injuries and other disabilities,
and treating pain through hypnosis and other psychological approaches.
Training
Dr. Patterson earned his undergraduate degree at Emory University
and his Ph.D. at Florida State University. He completed an internship
at the University of Southern California, a fellowship in Rehabilitation
Psychology at Emory University, and a Medical Psychology residency
at the Oregon Health Sciences Center.
