Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Medicine
The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington and the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System offer a one year ACGME-accredited fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine.
Fellows participate in inpatient care, outpatient clinics, consultation, electrodiagnosis, formal didactics and research related to traumatic spinal cord injury and other spinal cord disorders. The curriculum emphasizes acute rehabilitation, spinal cord medicine and the primary care of persons with SCI. Procedures including electrodiagnosis, injections for spasticity, and management of the baclofen pump are included in the instruction. A didactic series and specialized materials address the educational needs. Seminars and conferences throughout the medical centers complement the education. A stipend is available for funding attendance and/or presentation at medical meetings on a national level.
Training sites include University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center (Level 4 trama center), Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Center (CHRMC) and the VA Puget Sound Health Care System. Faculty members include: Drs. Stephen Burns, Barry Goldstein, Margaret Hammond, George Kraft, Terry Massagli, James Little, Steven Stiens, and others throughout our department and in the Departments of Neurosurgery, Urology, and Medicine.
Applicants will have completed residency training. Those interested should send a letter of inquiry and CV to:
