Overview

Patient Stories
Our patients' stories provide a personal look at what rehabilitation means in our locations. Reading them will offer you with a glimpse into the treatment that makes our Rehabilitation Units so respected across the country.

See patient stories...

Because of an illness or injury, a patient may be referred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility in order to receive intensive treatment and therapy. Here, a multidisciplinary team of doctors, therapists, and other healthcare professionals will work with the patient on a plan specifically designed to focus on his or her rehabilitation needs. This plan includes therapy from a variety of disciplines for three hours a day, five days a week, as such a schedule provides the best situation for rehabilitative success.

By providing safe, high-quality medical care to our patients and their families, our Inpatient Rehabilitation Units emphasize working in partnership with the patient to maximize independence and realize potential. Staffed with expert caregivers and recognized as among the top rehabilitation programs in the nation, our facilities are dedicated to restoring capability to our patients.

All of our inpatient facilities have been accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, assuring our patients that they are provided the highest quality of service possible. Benefiting from the latest technologies and research, our patients find themselves part of a patient- and family-centered care model where their input is valued, their needs are the priority of their health care process, and their care is consistently addressed with compassion and respect.

Almost all aspects of rehabilitative care are addressed within our rehabilitation units. Appointments are scheduled to maximize the benefits for the patient, and the patient’s care team provides continuity throughout the process.

Rehabilitation Advisory Council at UWMC
As part of our patient- and family-centered care model at the UW Inpatient Rehabilitation Units, we are committed to involving the patients and family members in the rehabilitation process. An outgrowth of this commitment has been the development of an extremely active Rehabilitation Advisory Council, comprised of former patients and their families and dedicated to providing perspective and ideas for improving the health care process.
