Occupational Therapy Degree Programs:
Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT)
Practicing as an Occupational Therapist
National Certification
After having completed all requirements and graduating from
the program, students are eligible to sit for the National
Certification Examination of Occupational Therapists administered
by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
(NBCOT). This exam is computer-based and is offered four times
a year. Students must pass the exam to demonstrate entry-level
competency to work as an occupational therapist. Questions
related to the topic of felonies are addressed when applying
for the exam. A felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure. For further information, contact:

State Licensure
The State of Washington requires that all occupational therapists
hold a license to practice. Licensure in the State requires
that the person has passed the National Certification Examination
and permanent licensure is issued only after the State Regulatory
Board receives the passing score. Graduates may begin work
before taking the exam by using a temporary license until
they are eligible for permanent licensure. Most all states
require licensure; however, requirements for licensure may vary from
state to state.
