UW Center on Outcomes Research in Rehabilitation (UWCORR) and the PROMIS Network
Funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the University of Washington Center on Outcomes Research in Rehabilitation (UWCORR) has the broad, long-term objectives of providing clinical researchers with better tools or methods to measure patient-reported outcomes (PRO) in children and adults with chronic disease and disability by:
(a.) using modern measurement theory and other sophisticated approaches to improve instruments and approaches used to measure pain and fatigue;
(b.) increasing scientific understanding of associations between pain and fatigue, and their impact on important outcome variables such as depression and participation.
Dagmar Amtmann, Ph.D. is the Principal Investigator, and the key co-investigators are include: Kurt Johnson, Ph.D. (Co-Principal Investigator), Mark Jensen, Ph.D., Jeff McLaughlin, M.D., Kathy Yorkston, Ph.D., Joyce M. Engel, Ph.D., George Kraft, M.D., Karon Cook, Ph.D., Paul Crane, M.D. from the University of Washington and Louis Quatrano, Ph.D., from the National Institutes of Health.
UWCORR is a member of the Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS) network and works collaboratively with five research sites and the Statistical Coordinating Center on the projects adopted by the network. Network projects are aimed at the development of a web-based item bank that could be used by clinical researchers to select and implement psychologically sound measures of patient reported outcomes. UWCORR leads the network efforts in improving measurement of pain in children and adults, and participates in the pediatric workgroup that coordinates all PROMIS efforts that involve children.
