The Brain Research Foundation has invited University of Washington to nominate 2 (two) faculty members to submit a Letter of Intent for the 2015 Seed Grant Program. Nominated candidates may submit a Letter of Intent (LOI), with a biosketch, by January 8, 2015.
The Brain Research Foundation’s Annual Seed Grant Program was initiated in 1981. The purpose of the Program is to provide start-up money for new research projects and innovative programs that have the potential of becoming competitive for an NIH grant or other external funding sources. Our goal is to have this initial effort succeed in opening future opportunities for research, collaboration and scientific advancement.
We are contacting institutions to make sure that all eligible neuroscientists are aware of this upcoming funding opportunity. To be eligible, the PI must be a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor working in the field of neuroscience. The grant is for two years in the amount of $80,000 (direct costs). Grant payment is $40,000 per year. The support focus is for new research projects of the highest scientific merit. Please note that a medical school falls under its larger university and BRF will consider them a single institution.
To be eligible, PI must be a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor at an invited institution, working in the area of studies of brain function. This includes molecular and clinical neuroscience as well as studies of neural, sensory, motor, cognitive, behavioral and emotional functioning in health and disease. The grant propos al must detail a new research project that is not funded by other sources.
Application Instructions
Please submit:
- a two-page letter of intent with a description of proposed aims and approach
- Biosketch or CV of the PI
- A letter of support from the Dean or Chair. This letter of support signifies that the Dean or Chair have ensured that the nominee and application are likely to be of sufficient quality to be competitive nationally
to research@uw.edu by 5:00 PM Thursday, November 13, 2014. Full proposals are due to the sponsor 1/8/15, so you will need to have your materials in to the Office of Sponsored Programs by 12/31/14 for processing, if given the go ahead by the Proposal Review Committee.
Inquiries and Contact Information
Investigators who identify a grant, award or fellowship program that restricts the number of applications that can be submitted from an Institution should immediately contact their Chairperson, Associate Dean for Research (or Dean, if no ADR) and the Office of Research (see below) if they intend to prepare a response. Failure to do so, or to meet the deadlines for submission of pre-proposal, will preclude submission of the application through the Office of Sponsored Programs.
For general inquiries, or to request a listing of a limited submission opportunity that should be but is not already listed, please email us at limitedsubs@uw.edu.
