2016 Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program

The Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program will award up to thirty-two major fellowships of $200,000 each, lasting one or two years, that will enable recipients to, among other things, travel, hire research assistants, and take sabbaticals from their institutions in order to focus on their research. To review the nominations and select the winners, we have put together an extraordinary jury, consisting of the heads of some of our nation’s leading organizations and institutions. The jury will be chaired by Susan Hockfield, president emerita of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The UW is allowed to nominate one junior (maximum of 10 years out from Ph.D., 2005-2015) and one senior scholar from our full-time faculty.

There are two broad themes: challenges to U.S. democracy and to international order. The full list of topics is here:

Inquiries and Contact Information

Investigators who identify a grant, award or fellowship program that restricts the number of applications that can be submitted from an Institution should immediately contact their Chairperson, Associate Dean for Research (or Dean, if no ADR) and the Office of Research (see below) if they intend to prepare a response. Failure to do so, or to meet the deadlines for submission of pre-proposal, will preclude submission of the application through the Office of Sponsored Programs.

For general inquiries, or to request a listing of a limited submission opportunity that should be but is not already listed, please email us at limitedsubs@uw.edu.
