The 2017 Eric and Sheila Samson Prime Minister's Prize for Innovation in Alternative Fuels for Transportation
The State of Israel considers the research and development of technologies that reduce the global use of oil in transportation to be a subject of top international and national priority. The government of Israel, headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, initiated the National Program to Reduce the Global Dependence on Oil, with an aim of encouraging global innovation and scientific breakthroughs in the field of alternative transportation fuels. In order to promote the goals of this initiative, "The Eric and Sheila Samson Prime Minister's Prize for Innovation in Alternative Fuels for Transportation" is awarded yearly for global innovation or a scientific or technological breakthrough in the field of alternative fuels for transportation. Nominees should be actively engaged in innovative, paradigm-shifting research that is worthy of significant and widespread attention. The recipient(s) can be citizens of any country, religion or race. The 2017 Prize of one million US dollars will be awarded by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Science Technology & Space of the State of Israel in a ceremony in October 2017.
Nominations for this prize must come from the president, VP, deputy president, and will be coordinated by the Office of Research.
Application Instructions
1) PIs cannot self-nominate
2) anyone interested in nominating a colleague should be committed to preparing the nomination and should submit to the Office of Research:
- the name of the proposed nominee
- the nominee’s CV
- and a no more than one page description of why this nominee and suitable and competitive for this award
to research@uw.edu by 5:00 PM Thursday, April 13, 2017. Nominations are due to the sponsor 5/1/17, if given the go ahead by the Proposal Review Committee.
Inquiries and Contact Information
Investigators who identify a grant, award or fellowship program that restricts the number of applications that can be submitted from an Institution should immediately contact their Chairperson, Associate Dean for Research (or Dean, if no ADR) and the Office of Research (see below) if they intend to prepare a response. Failure to do so, or to meet the deadlines for submission of pre-proposal, will preclude submission of the application through the Office of Sponsored Programs.
