The Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust was created in 1970 by May Smith, in honor of her late husband. The Trust supports education and research in ornamental horticulture in North America, South America, Central America, the Caribbean, and Australia. Grants up to $25,000 (however, awards normally do not exceed $20,000) are typically made to botanical gardens, arboreta, and universities. Letters of inquiry from organizations that match the Trust’s funding interests and qualifications are welcome.

The Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust supports education and research in ornamental horticulture, primarily in North America, South America, Central America, the Caribbean, and Australia. The Trust seeks to fund projects that will further ornamental horticulture at organizations pursuing the following activities:

• The advancement of research in ornamental horticulture and the publication of the results of such research
• Assisting in the creation, development, preservation, and maintenance of gardens accessible to the public for educational purposes
• Promotion of the environmentally responsible introduction, cultivation, and distribution of plants which have ornamental horticultural value
• Assisting in the publication of books or other works relating to ornamental horticulture
• Informal and/or formal educational activities that further ornamental horticulture

1. a one-page letter of intent with a description of proposed aims and approach
2. Biosketch or CV of the PI

to research@uw.edu by 5:00 PM Thursday, June 7, 2018. Proposals are due to the sponsor 8/15/18, so you will need to have your materials in to OSP by 8/7/18 for processing, if given the go-ahead by the review committee.
