LIMITED APPLICANT AWARD FUNDING OPPORTUNITY
The V Foundation 2020 Pediatric Cancer Research
Number of applications Fred Hutch/UW Cancer Consortium may submit: one nominee from either the Scholar or the Translational program type.
Pediatric-Translational Cancer Research Grant Program
- The V Foundation seeks to support translational research projects within the scope of pediatric cancer research. Translational projects should move a novel strategy from the laboratory into a human clinical trial or use specimens from a clinical trial to develop biomarkers or mechanisms. The research should apply in some direct way to human beings within the time frame of less than 3 years.
- The Pediatric Translational Research Award is a $600,000 grant paid in three annual installments of $200,000. Indirect costs up to 10% are permitted (i.e., over the grant term, a maximum of $60,000 can be utilized for indirect costs leaving $540,000 for direct costs).
- SPECIAL FOCUS AREA: Pediatric cancer research. This call for applications is specifically for pediatric cancer research. There will be a separate invited Translational call for applications which focuses on all adult cancer types.
- Eligibility:
- One nominee may apply in either the V Scholar or the Translational program type. The RFA for both pediatric programs was provided so you may decide which program is the best fit.
- Nominated by their Cancer Center Director or similar high ranking research official.
- Employed at a non-profit research institution (e.g., 501c3, Section 170).
- Either a US Citizen or have a legal permit (temporary or permanent) to work in the US. Not applicable to Canadian institutions.
- Hold a tenure-track faculty position at their cancer research institution. Non-promotable, adjunct, affiliated, temporary, part-time or acting faculty positions are not eligible for Principal Investigator nomination to lead the Translational Research Team.
Pediatric-V Scholar Cancer Research Grant Program
- The Pediatric V Scholar Award supports young tenure-track faculty early in their cancer research career by funding projects that are laboratory-based fundamental research through bench to bedside research. The total amount of the grant is $200,000, paid in two annual installments of $100,000. Only direct costs of the research are supported by this award.
- SPECIAL FOCUS AREA: Pediatric cancer research. This call for applications is specifically for pediatric cancer research. There will be a separate invited V Scholar call for applications which focuses on adult cancer types.
- Eligibility:
- One nominee may apply in either the V Scholar or the Translational program type. The RFA for both pediatric programs was provided so you may decide which program is the best fit.
- Nominated by their Cancer Center Director or similar high ranking research official.
- Employed at a non-profit research institution (e.g., 501c3, Section 170).
- Either a US Citizen or a permanent legal resident in the US. Not applicable to Canadian institutions.
- Possess at least 2 years post-doctoral (MD or PhD) fellowship training. For MDs, a minimum of one year is acceptable if only one year is required for their specialty.
- Clinical scientists are eligible if the research institution can demonstrate that it will fully support the research applicant (e.g. dedicated lab space, committed research time, start-up funds).
- By the Due Date of the Application, applicants must:
- Hold a tenure-track faculty position as an assistant professor at their cancer research institution. Non-promotable, adjunct, affiliated, temporary, part-time or acting faculty positions are not eligible.
- Have been appointed to their first full-time Assistant Professor position within the last 5 years, and not yet been promoted to Associate Professor.
- Exclusion: By the due date of the application, nominees must:
- NOT already hold an RO1 or RO1-equivalent grants as a PI or co-leader.
- NOT be a co-leader on projects such as SPORE or NIH grant mechanisms like U01, DP1, DP2, R37, and R23.
Note: The V Scholar award is intended to support research to leverage these larger awards; so, the nominee should not have already received such awards.

All Fred Hutch candidates will be notified by this date of whether they have been endorsed by the Internal Awards Committee to submit an application. |
