Life Science Start-Up and Development + 3 other programs
Note: There is no match requirement for these opportunities.
Program #1: Population Health Program: The Population Health grant program is intended to support cancer research projects that aim to address cancer disparities for population groups. All cancer-related research types are allowable and encouraged (e.g., prevention, health services, etc.). Projects are encouraged to involve collaborations with the relevant stakeholders in the population groups to be impacted by the research (e.g., researchers, public health organizations, community organizations, patient advocacy groups, etc.). Additionally, as appropriate, engagement of key stakeholders in the development and implementation of the research plan is encouraged but not required. Potential research projects should include an element to address cancer risk or resilience related to persistent cancer disparities. Projects should not merely document existing disparities but should aim to develop or implement interventions to address these disparities. $500,000 maximum request.
Program #2: Inclusion and Diversity in Cancer Clinical Trials: The intent of the Inclusion and Diversity in Screening, Diagnosis, and Cancer Clinical Trials grant is to support projects that have the potential to increase participation and diversity in cancer clinical trials. Many barriers exist to clinical trials participation, including but not limited to initial screening and diagnosis, the capacity and infrastructure at clinical trial sites, and understanding and addressing the needs of potential clinical trial participants. As such, this grant may support projects that enhance clinical trial site capacity or infrastructure to conduct cancer clinical trials or address patients’ barriers to participation. The grant may not be used to purchase real property. $1,000,000 maximum request.
Program #3: Life Science Start-Up and Development: The Life Science Start-up and Development grant is intended to support early-stage companies and innovative researchers to translate promising research into the development of tools, devices, or therapeutics related to cancer. This request for proposals (RFP) seeks proposals for the research or development of innovative ideas that have the potential to address important needs related to cancer prevention, screening, detection, and treatment to advance cancer care, lessen the burden of cancer, and improve health outcomes. There are two application tracks, Seed grants ($300,000 maximum request) and Catalyst grants ($2,000,000 maximum request).
Program #4: Shared Resources and Infrastructure: The Shared Resources and Infrastructure grant is intended to bolster Washington State’s cancer research ecosystem by supporting efforts to plan, develop, or support shared resources that will advance cancer research in Washington State. Shared resources are research tools, materials, and services that will provide access to, or be used by, multiple cancer research projects or institutions and may include but are not limited to population-based databases, biospecimen acquisition programs, and animal models. Infrastructure is broadly defined as essential to support a shared resource. The grant may not be used to purchase real property. There are two grant award tracks, Planning grants ($300,000 maximum request) and Implementation grants ($2,000,000 maximum request).

Inquiries and Contact Information
Investigators who identify a grant, award or fellowship program that restricts the number of applications that can be submitted from an Institution should immediately contact their Chairperson, Associate Dean for Research (or Dean, if no ADR) and the Office of Research (see below) if they intend to prepare a response. Failure to do so, or to meet the deadlines for submission of pre-proposal, will preclude submission of the application through the Office of Sponsored Programs.
For general inquiries, or to request a listing of a limited submission opportunity that should be but is not already listed, please email us at limitedsubs@uw.edu.
