Breakthrough Seed Funding
The purpose of the CARE Fund’s Breakthrough Seed Funding grant is to encourage and support life science companies, entrepreneurs, innovators, and researchers who seek to explore and develop innovative ideas and strategies to substantially advance cancer research and care from etiology to survivorship.
The primary aims of the Breakthrough Seed Funding grant are to:
• Support early-stage research projects to explore major new insights into the etiology, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancers.
• Help bridge the funding gap between early discoveries and commercialization of therapeutics, devices, and tools to lessen the burden of cancer.
Match Requirement:
This grant opportunity requires a minimum one-to-one (1:1) match of non-state of Washington funds to requested grant funds or submit a plan to secure the 1:1 match to the requested grant in the application. For candidates who plan to request Provost Matching Funds, note that being selected for a limited submission does not guarantee that Matching Funds will be approved. Candidates may apply for up to 1/3 Provost match for successful proposals, depending on the availability of funds and contingent on at least 2/3 of the overall match being funded by departments and colleges of participating faculty. For this, a Matching Funds Request form will need to be sent by your Dean: https://www.washington.edu/research/or/matching-funds-request/
