Public Interest Technology University Network (PITUN) Network Challenge Y 6

In February 2020, the University of Washington was accepted as a member of the Public Interest Technology Network (PITUN). For background, see PITUN Overview. Through the development of curricula, research agendas, and experiential learning programs in the public interest technology space, these universities are trying innovative tactics to produce graduates with multiple fluencies at the intersection of technology and policy.

In 2024, Year 6 of the Network Challenge, PITUN will support 10 – 15 projects led by PITUN Members that are:

  • Educational offerings that foster cross-disciplinary perspectives and credentialing, or
  • Career pipeline/placement efforts to develop a public interest technology workforce in government, industry, and social impact organizations.

Members of PITUN lead Network Challenge projects, often in partnership with other universities, community organizations, nonprofits, government offices or companies. In Year 6, the Challenge will support new ideas and frameworks for advancing public interest technology in the following areas:

  • Climate and Environment
  • State & Local Government Partnerships
  • Democracy & Elections
  • AI, Quantum & Emerging Technologies
  • Gender Justice

They are particularly interested in projects that do not replicate existing and previously funded projects but offer a new approach or lens for public interest technology.

Failure to do so, or to meet the deadlines for submission of pre-proposal, will preclude submission of the application through the Office of Sponsored Programs.
