Samsung Ho-Am Prize

Limited Submissions

The Ho-Am Prize is annually bestowed on people of Korean heritage around the world who made significant contributions to the fields of academia, the arts, and community service. The Samsung Ho-Am Prize was established in 1990 by Kun-Hee Lee, the late Chairman of Samsung, with a vision to create a new corporate culture that continues the noble spirit of public service espoused by Byung-chull Lee, founder of Samsung.

The Prize is presented each year to individuals who have contributed to academics, the arts, and social development, or who have furthered the welfare of humanity through distinguished accomplishments in their respective professional fields.

Application Instructions

Please submit:

  1. A one‐page letter of intent with a description of proposed aims and approach, or 

    a one‐page statement of nomination based on a detailed description of the candidate's primary achievements in his/her field.

  2. If the final application requires a diversity statement or statement of broader impacts, please summarize your plans to address the specific requirements on an additional page.
  3. CV (not biosketch) of the PI including past grant funding.
  4. A letter of support from the Dean or Chair that ensures that the nominee is likely to be of sufficient quality to be competitive. Please be sure to address the funder’s stated selection criteria.

Investigators who identify a grant, award or fellowship program that restricts the number of applications that can be submitted from an Institution should immediately contact their Chairperson, Associate Dean for Research (or Dean, if no ADR) and the Office of Research (see below) if they intend to prepare a response. Failure to do so, or to meet the deadlines for submission of pre-proposal, will preclude submission of the application through the Office of Sponsored Programs.
