Sloan Research Fellowships

The Sloan Research Fellowship Program recognizes and rewards outstanding early-career faculty who have the potential to revolutionize their fields of study.

Fellowships are awarded annually to early-career researchers whose creativity, innovation, and research accomplishments make them stand out as the next generation of leaders.

Fellowship funds may be used by the fellow for any expense judged supportive of the fellow’s research including staffing, professional travel, lab expenses, equipment, or summer salary support.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in chemistry, computer science, Earth system science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, physics, or a related field.
  • Candidates must be members of the faculty of a college, university, or other degree-granting institution in the U.S. or Canada.
  • Candidates must be tenure-track, though untenured, as of September 15 of the nomination year.
  • Candidate’s faculty position must carry a regular teaching obligation.

Application Instructions

Please submit as one combined pdf labeled with PI’s Lastname, Firstname:

  1. A one‐page letter of intent with a description of proposed aims and approach.
  2. If the final application requires a statement of broader impacts, please summarize your plans to address the specific requirements on an additional page.
  3. CV (not biosketch) of the PI including past grant funding.
  4. A letter of nomination from the Chair. If nominating more than 1 candidate, Chairs must rank them.

to limitedsubs@uw.edu by 5:00 PM Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Self-nomination via the funder’s portal is due 9/15/2025 if given the go‐ahead by the Limited Submissions review committee.
