Hartford Geriatrics Health Outcomes Research Scholars Award Program

The Hartford Geriatrics Health Outcomes Program is no longer accepting applications.

History of the Program
Sponsored by The John A. Hartford Foundation and in collaboration with the AGS Foundation for Health in Aging, the Hartford Geriatrics Health Outcomes Research Scholars Awards Program supported physician-scientists committed to improving the health care of older adults during the critical transition from junior faculty to independent researcher.

For the purposes of this grant, outcomes research is defined as the study of functional status, impairments, perceptions, social opportunities, and health services utilization that are infl uenced by disease, injury, treatment, or health policy, including etiology, diagnosis, and intervention. Research must be focused on older adults and may address clinical strategies and effectiveness, innovative outcomes measures, and quality of life.

From 2005-2009, up to four recipients were selected each year by an academic advisory board composed of distinguished academic geriatricians. Each awardee received a $130,000 or $200,000 grant (depending on the cohort) over a two-year period to perform studies in outcomes research addressing clinical strategies, innovative outcomes measures and quality of life.

At the conclusion of each grant period, scholars presented their research findings at the American Geriatrics Society Annual Scientific Meeting.

Inquiries and Contact Information

Investigators who identify a grant, award or fellowship program that restricts the number of applications that can be submitted from an Institution should immediately contact their Chairperson, Associate Dean for Research (or Dean, if no ADR) and the Office of Research (see below) if they intend to prepare a response. Failure to do so, or to meet the deadlines for submission of pre-proposal, will preclude submission of the application through the Office of Sponsored Programs.

For general inquiries, or to request a listing of a limited submission opportunity that should be but is not already listed, please email us at limitedsubs@uw.edu.
