Dr. Åke Lernmark is the holder of the Robert H. Williams Endowed Chair in Medicine. The endowment is an extraordinary way of supporting research. It gives Dr. Lernmark flexibility in terms of resources and the ability to take on new initiatives. New projects generate preliminary data that can be used in applying for grants from the NIH or other funding agencies. The endowment also gives Dr. Lernmark the financial freedom to hire and train a new generation of scientists. The University of Washington ranks among the top medical schools in the United States.

Our research is largely funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), and the American Diabetes Association (ADA), but research is expensive and progress can be hampered due to a lack of funding. In order to further our research initiatives, we rely on the generous support of the public.

Donations to the Robert H. Williams Endowment can be made through wills, trusts, or direct donations by credit card or check. It should be indicated on your donation that the contribution is for the Robert H. Williams Laboratory. If you choose to contribute by check, please indicate on the check the following: WILLRO #99-0025 and mail to:
