NATIVE AMERICAN SCIENCE OUTREACH NETWORK

Grant-funded summer program designed to increase opportunities in science for Native Americans.

The Native American Science Outreach Network (NASON) increases the participation of Native Americans in undergraduate and graduate science, engineering and mathematics programs at the university level and subsequently in science-related professions.

Twenty-five students, 10 Native American para-professionals and 30 secondary science teachers of Native American students are selected to spend one summer month at the University of Washington learning science, computer and communication skills.

The program is supported by grants; teachers and para-professionals receive stipend and UW credit. Students receive high school credit. All participants receive living expenses.

Special Requirements: Secondary science teachers must teach Native American students. Para-professionals and high school students must be Native American. Recommendation by Tribal Council; by application only.
