A View of Yakima Valley
By Cecilia Solis

Our group decided to predict the course of the next flood of the Yakima River in the Yakima Valley in Washington.

We got a lot of our information from City Hall, including a very large map that became the base map for our project. This view of Yakima Valley showed the course of the river before the flood of 1996. Then we layered other maps drawn on acetate on top of the base, making overlays that showed the Yakima River during and after the flood.

Our research and model were precise and correct. Ourproject seemed like women in college had done it. I couldn't even believe we made it, but we had.

I think if I were to have worked with boys and girls on a team, nothing would have gotten done. But working on an all-girls team, we all had fun and finished every task.
