Comparing Rainfall |
In our two towns, Taholah and Adna, it seems like it rains more in Taholah than in Adna, but Adna floods much more often.
Amanda: The University of Washington paid for rain gauges for us to use to take our data and we set them up at our houses and we took rain data every morning usually before we left for school. And the months we collected data were the three months we flooded in Adna. We couldn't believe how much more it rained in Taholah. We did some more research on floods in the libraries and the Internet helped a lot.
Amber: The river goes past Taholah and into the ocean.I thought it was pretty strange how Taholah came up with four-to-five meters of rain and Adna only came up with one.
Amanda:We came up with the conclusion that it floods in coastal towns only with tsunamis or hurricanes, but river floods happen with almost anything like storms or ice melts.
Amber: In the future, we would like to investigate the topography and other factors that contribute to flooding in Taholah and Adna.
