Book and copy material allowances (in the form of book slips) are awarded
to students with athletic book scholarships. Please check the following
guidelines before using a book slip. You are encouraged to purchase used books whenever
possible to stay within your allocated budget. The Athletic Department will
cover ONLY THE COST OF ACTUAL REQUIRED
COURSE-RELATED BOOKS AND SUPPLIES. This includes:
- Required textbooks
- Required course printed materials available at copy centers (on or off campus)
- Mandatory course supplies and required field trip costs up to
$150.00 a year. To be reimbursed for these items, see the
Financial Aid Coordinator, Robin Chang.
Tapes of any kind (music, foreign language, etc.) and lecture notes
are NOT COVERED in the book allowance.
Purchasing Books at the University Bookstore
- Required books can be picked up in the textbook department at
the special accounts register a week prior to the first day of
classes. Individual packets for each student will be prepared
according to registration schedules. Students must be
registered for at least 12 credits before book slips can be
issued. If your schedule changes
during this time, inform Suzanne Anderson (Graves 200A, suzy@u.washington.edu) and she
will make arrangements with the Bookstore.
You must confirm
that the courses listed are correct
before
leaving the Bookstore. If you change your schedule in the two
week period before classes begin and fail to update Suzanne, the books for your new classes will not be included in
the packet.
- If classes change after the purchase of books, the original
books must be returned to the Bookstore before new books can be
purchased. The Bookstore will issue a receipt for the return,
which must be turned over to Suzanne Anderson for a new book slip.
Book slips are kept on file at the Bookstore for six weeks.
After the sixth week,
required books which have not yet been picked up will be
re-shelved. If a new class is added this late in the quarter, a
purple book slip is then required from Suzanne’s office.
- If
you need additional books during the quarter or if a book is on
backorder, these may also be picked up at the special accounts
register.
- Books may NOT be returned to the buy-back section until the end
of the quarter.
- There will be no replacements for lost or early returned books.
Purchasing Copy Materials at Copy Centers on Campus
On-campus copy centers carry a list of authorized student-athletes who may purchase
copy materials. These materials will be charged to the Athletic Department if
you present a pictured ID and complete a Photocopy Work Request Form
(available at the copy center). Purchasing Copy Materials at
Copy Centers off Campus
Course materials available at copy centers such as Mecca, Kinko's,
and Professional Copy & Print will be reimbursed by
Student-Athlete Academic Services. Please provide Suzanne Anderson with a
completed Reimbursement Form (available in SAAS) and a receipt from
the copy center. The receipt MUST be imprinted with the name
of the copy center.
