Now, we use this word [Sahaptin] before, and it means \u2018to go outside\u2019, but [Sahaptin], \u2018I want to go to the bathroom\u2019. [Sahaptin]. It\u2019s pretty easy to say isn\u2019t it? So now if you were asking someone about their needs in the present tense, you would say:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">1:02 &#8211; [Sahaptin]<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">1:07 &#8211; Question. Make it sound like a question. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">1:25 &#8211; [Sahaptin] <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">1:48 &#8211; Well, now you\u2019re beginning to sound like you\u2019re asking a question. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">1:55 &#8211; [Sahaptin] <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">2:00 &#8211; \u2018Are you sleepy\u2019?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">2:04 &#8211; [Sahaptin]<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">2:18 &#8211; Again. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">2:22 &#8211; ssss you\u2019ve got to say that \u201cs\u201d, [Sahaptin] <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">2:34 &#8211; There\u2019s some other dialects that have a word that\u2019s a lot easier to say than this. [Sahaptin]. (?) That\u2019s a (?), isn\u2019t it? (?) That\u2019s a river language too. No it would be a (?), yeah, but here they say [Sahaptin].<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">3:04 &#8211; [Sahaptin]<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">3:09 &#8211; Now, I hear a lot of mothers who have children who understand, you know, or they are trying to train their children to speak Indian they will ask them if they are toddlers and wearing diapers, they will ask that baby [Sahaptin]. And they will usually answer by either pointing to their diaper or some kind of answer [Sahaptin] or [Sahaptin].<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">3:43 &#8211; [Sahaptin] <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">3:49 &#8211; \u2018Do you want to go the bathroom\u2019? <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">3:54 &#8211; [Sahaptin]<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">4:09 &#8211; Don\u2019t forget that t, hard t. [Sahaptin] <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">4:26 &#8211; The next group we have, again, asking but in the past tense. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">4:38 &#8211; [Sahaptin] <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">4:44 &#8211; Your [Sahaptin] is your past tense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">4:49<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>&#8211; [Sahaptin] <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">6:13<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>&#8211; See, there are three different ways there to say something about taking a bath. The first one [Sahaptin] , \u2018were you going to take a bath\u2019? see I didn\u2019t put \u201cgo\u201d there. [Sahaptin], \u2018did you take a bath\u2019? See, there\u2019s a difference there. [Sahaptin], \u2018were you wanting to take a bath\u2019? See, there\u2019s three different ways of saying that, and you can also use that structure with any of those other words that are listed there, you know, to switch them around, and this is what you should do, you should practice using different forms, and just practice at home or wherever, you know. A lot of people are putting these tapes in their recorder you know (tape cuts off)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">7:23 &#8211; [Sahaptin] is an instrument to hit a ball or something like a ball bat, or tennis racket. The word is \u2018hit\u2019 and the [Sahaptin] is telling you that it\u2019s an instrument. What a [Sahaptin] is something that\u2019s a little different, it\u2019s a \u2018whip\u2019. [Sahaptin] is an instrument to hit a horse or a buggy whip. That way you can tell a difference with the [Sahaptin]. I don\u2019t think you\u2019ll find that very often though, only in this particular instance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">8:33 &#8211; So when you\u2019re asking someone [Sahaptin], \u2018are you sick\u2019? [Sahaptin], \u2018is he sick\u2019? [Sahaptin], \u2018are they sick\u2019? See, the prefixes make a difference. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">(class asking questions)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">9:30 &#8211; The only reason I put the hyphen in is so you know the difference between a pronoun, I used to put them all together and my high school students said even if I put a hyphen with the [Sahaptin] they could remember it better, so that\u2019s why I do it. And the other question was why did I put circles over my \u201ci\u201d\u2019s and I said that if I just put a dot it might not show up a lot of times so I make a little circle for my dot over the \u201ci\u201d. I had to learn all that because I had to learn the hard way, a lot of times when you\u2019re writing real fast and you dot your \u201cI\u201d with a pencil, your chalk might not dot, it might become a u or something. Let me hear you read those Indian words over on that side and here. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">(class reading) <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">11:40 &#8211; Read it again now. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">(class reading) <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">11:59 &#8211; Two people are [Sahaptin] each other.
