General Fundraising

RSOs may hold fundraisers on campus but need to comply with University policies on Commercial and Sales Activities. RSOs should meet with an SAO Adviser prior to conducting any fundraiser on campus. In most cases, a fundraising permit is required and can be issued by the SAO Adviser.

Types of on-campus events which require a fundraising permit:

  • Events that charge admission
    - No "At the Door" sales are permitted in the HUB.
    - HUB events with admission/ticket sales requires the services of the HUB Ticket Office.
    - SCC events with admission/ticket sales requires SAUF Event Staff.
  • Sale of goods or services (t-shirts, cookbooks, frisbees, sports lessons, etc.)
  • Food sales require that you follow food handling procedures
  • Raffles
Since raffles are defined as a form of gambling by the state of Washington, it is necessary to work with your SAO Adviser to document raffle details, such as prizes, price, ticket numbering, etc.
Please see Raffle guidelines for more information.
  • Charity drives and philanthropic events
Raising money, clothing, food, or other goods for charity organizations requires documenting receipt of such funds or goods by the charity.

Approval Process for Fund Raisers

  1. Pick up a Fundraising Information Worksheet in the Student Activities Office.
  2. At least two weeks in advance of the activity, make an appointment with an adviser in the Student Activities Office to review your proposal. Bring the completed fundraising worksheet to the appointment.
  3. After your appointment, a Student Organization Sales and Fund Raising Permit will be issued, which must be signed by the student organization officer and then approved and signed by the facility/area manager involved and the Assistant Director of Student Activities.
  4. If approved, a copy of the signed permit must be at the site of the sale or fund raising activity.
  5. After the activity is completed, you will be required to meet with your adviser in the Student Activities Office and submit a written report with any necessary documentation, as stated on the fund raising permit.
