FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
Student Organization [Club] Registration
Is it mandatory to register my student group?
Yes - In order to have access to University facilities
and services a student organization must be registered through the Student
Activities Office (SAO). Also, if your organization has or would like to request an Email/Web account or office space in the HUB, your club must be registered.
Check here for additional registration information.
How long does the registration process take?
One of your club's five officers must attend an
orientation session before he or she can obtain
access to our online registration system. The online system will be available to you
no later than 48 hours after you have attended the orientation. When you have
entered all the necessary information into the system correctly, you will
receive a message your registration is complete.
What does "affiliation with an off-campus organization" mean?
Some student organization are campus chapters of an off-campus organization. The University of Washington does not prevent campus
chapters from following policies and procedures recommended by off-campus
organizations. However, the off-campus affiliated organization cannot
interfere with campus policies and must respect the decision-making ability
of the campus organization chapter. A copy of the affiliated off-campus
organization constitution must be submitted when an RSO registers with the SAO.
Check here for more information on affiliation.
If we change officers, do we need to notify anyone?
Yes. In order for the new officers to be permitted to act
on behalf of the organization, they need to be listed as officers with the
SAO. It is the responsibility of any RSO to notify the SAO
when officers change.
What are the benefits and resources available to our group after we register?
Registered Student Organizations are able to use University
facilities and certain other services. For more specific information regarding
specific services and resources, see the RSO Benefits
and Resources page.
