GPSS Funding
GPSS is the Graduate and Professional Student Senate, and
therefore funds programs that enrich the cultural and academic experience of
graduate and professional students. GPSS has two funding sources: Departmental
Allocations for graduate departments which may only be requested by a GPSS
Senator and Special Appropriations for RSOs with graduate student constituents.
GPSS Special Appropriation funds may be requested for:
- Facilities and equipment rental
- Event related Printing and Advertising
- Tickets and/or Ticket Staff
- Security
- Honoraria for performers or speakers
ASUW Special Appropriation funds may NOT be requested for:
- Giveaways/Promotional Items such as T-shirts, doorprizes, etc.
- Food
- Alcohol
- Events which are *not* of primary benefit to UW students
- Events controlled by non-students
- Events held off-campus
- Fundraisers, donations, advocating for legislation or partisan political
activity
- Religious worship, exercise or instruction
- Honoraria for resource people on the University payroll as staff or faculty
- Reimbursements for past events
- Student organization operational expenses (including, but not limited to,
office supplies, equipment, salaries, telephones, telephone charges, etc.)
GPSS Special Appropriations Funding Process
Only graduate students may apply for GPSS Special Appropriation
funding and must be prepared to describe and answer questions regarding the
event, its budget, and other details. Although similar to ASUW Special Appropriations,
requests for GPSS Special Allocations funds are coordinated directly with the
GPSS Treasurer who may be contacted at gpsstres@u.washington.edu.
There is also an event evaluation that must be completed following the event.
GPSS funding request forms are available in the GPSS office,
HUB 300.
