In 1949 the acronym HUB was coined by the Daily reporter who felt the student union building should be the center of the campus. Later, the acronym became Husky Union Building and the name stuck.
Over 650 student organizations are registered at the Student Activities Office (SAO) in the HUB.
The HUB hosts over 4,000 events annually.
In 1949 the HUB measured 73,502 square feet and by 1952 the size has more than doubled to 159,656 square feet. In 1963 it grew to 182,449 square feet and currently measures 262,200 square feet.
Over 16,000 people visit the HUB daily.
During peak times the HUB Information Desk answers an average of 1,302 questions per day, or 86 questions per hour. The Information Desk serves as the Lost and Found for the entire the University.
Every year the best selling candy bar at all of our newsstands is Snickers with Twix falling close behind.
The HUB Games Area held bowling tournaments for student Organizations and Residence Halls for the 7th consecutive year. The Winter Bowling League had 24 teams. The Games Area also sponsors a College Bowl (Academic Quiz Team) which finished 11th in the national championships.
Over 126,500 people visit the HUB Games area annually.
