Equipment Life cycle and Refresh

Equipment lifespan:
The average laptop or desktop is expected to last 3-5 years.

Equipment Failure:
If an issue happens between years 0-3 after purchase, the warranty covers most major issues. After year 3, repairs will be researched and the cost of repair will be evaluated to determine if its better to replace or fix.

Replacement:

  • ASWI:
    Most years the College of Art and Sciences offers a Workstation Initiative. To qualify to be considered for a new machine, the users latest laptop or desktop that was purchased with university funds must be at least 3 years old.  This is not a guarantee of new equipment. Priority for new equipment will be based on oldest equipment.
  • Research funds:
    Users can purchase equipment with research money.
