Hardware Support Policy

The suggested departmental computing configuration for Savery Hall Faculty and Staff is:

  • Windows Desktop or Laptop that is joined to the NETID domain and utilizes o365 for email, SharePoint and OneDrive.

This configuration allows for seamless hardware updating and transferring of user profiles to new devices. It enables automatic connections to departmental resources like printers, email, local backup and file storage. It also configures Security and Profile policies that are automatically applied via GPOs and UW Groups for administration, remote access, and security.

If end users choose to go with equipment or software selections outside of the configuration stated above, such as Mac OS or Chrome OS,  then support will be limited for those users since they are primarily considered personal computing devices vs enterprise level devices.  Savery Hall has a constrained technical support staff that relies on enterprise level configurations and automation in order to provide the best overall support for everyone.
