Mission Statement
To achieve long-term change in the health and quality of life of populations, the SBS Program in Public Health will:
- Advance and disseminate knowledge in the social and behavioral sciences as applied to public health
- Train highly competent researchers in the social and behavioral sciences as applied to public health
- Train able and effective public health practitioners in the social and behavioral sciences
- Train students to work with communities to use research in the development and implementation of social and behavioral science-based policy and program models, planning and practice tools, and communication materials and methods
- Train students to advocate for social and behavioral science policy alternatives that promote effective clinical and public health practice.
The SBS Program seeks to impact the most broadly defined set of communities - from those that are international to those in which we live and work, each made up of diverse populations. The SBS program operates under the values adopted by the School of Public Health and Community Medicine and subscribes to the Community Based Research Principles as adopted by SPHCM.
