Jan Krogh Nielsen has a cand. mag. degree in Danish from the University of Copenhagen and an M. A. degree in English from the University of Oregon (where he was a Fulbright Scholar 1997-98). His cand. mag. thesis was on the Danish poet F. P. Jac's poetic language, and his areas of interest are Danish literature, literary theory and criticism, and poetry and poetics.

He has taught Danish at the University of Oregon (as a Graduate Teaching Fellow), at Påhlmans Handelsinstitut in Stockholm, at Denmark's International Study Program (DIS) in Copenhagen, at the University of Copenhagen's Intensive Language Program Summer courses, and at Studieskolen in Copenhagen.
