BSE students learn to apply natural products chemistry, process engineering and material science to the sustainable production of fuels, chemicals and fiber products from biomass resources. The program is uniquely challenging and immersive, as students get hands-on training in the classroom and lab during the year, and then rigorous paid internship opportunities with industry partners during the summer. As a result, BSE students develop the technical skills, knowledge and problem-solving tools to become leaders in the paper and emerging bioresource industries.
Our students benefit from small classes and leading-edge faculty research, and they graduate with real industry experience and excellent career opportunities. Principal BSE faculty are based in the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences, but the program also has supporting faculty from the College of Engineering’s Chemical Engineering Department.
