The Louvre :: Ancient Middle East (ca. 4th-beg. of 1st millennium BCE)

[Return to Index]

The very fragmentary selection here extends over a broad geographical an chronological range. The objects are primarily from Galleries 1b, 7, and 8 in the Louvre's Near Eastern Antiquities collections. A major part of the museum's collections for the ancient Middle East is from the Iranian site of Susa, where the oldest layers are as early as the 4th millennium BCE, and the younger ones extend well into the Islamic period.
