The selection here is mainly works of Syrian provenance (Gallery 8), with a few from Mamluk Egypt (Gallery 9) and one or two other locations in the 12th-13th centuries CE.

Syria, Djezireh. Copper alloy, engraved, inlaid with silver and gold. The cover probably belongs to a different object; the base resembles that of a candlestick.

N. Iraq or Syria. 2nd half of 13th c. CE. Copper alloy, hammered and engraved decoration inlaid with silver and red copper. Imagery includes Iranian epic scenes of Bahram Gur and Azade and figures inspired by Christian imagery.

Pitcher.
Syria, Damascus. 1258 CE/657 AH. Copper alloy, hammered and engraved decoration, inlaid with silver. Made for the last Ayyubid sultan of Aleppo, al-Malik al-Nasir Salah al-Din Yusuf by Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Mawsili.

The so-called "Barberini Vase."
Syria, Damascus or Aleppo. 1237-1260. Hammered copper alloy, engraved, with silver inlay. H.: 40.9 cm.; Dia. (at top?): 17.5 cm. Made for Ayyubid ruler of Aleppo Al-Malik al-Nasir, Salah al-Din Yusuf ibn al_Malik al-'Aziz.
