State Hermitage Museum :: Noin Ula

[Return to Index]

The objects shown here were excavated at the Xiongnu burial site of Noin Ula in northern Mongolia in 1924-1925. Since the graves had flooded, organic material in them had been well preserved. The current view is that the graves date from the first century BCE to first century CE. While most of the objects from Noin Ula are today in the collections of the Hermitage Museum, some were transferred to the Mongolian National Museum in Ulaan Baatar. Our display of materials from the latter includes other Xiongnu material.
