II. Uighur khaghans according to the standard histories:
[Note that the names may be rendered in different ways in the
various sources, although generally only as they are transmitted to
us through Chinese transcription. A ruler may be known
by his Turkic name (e.g., Mou-yü) or by the generally lengthy
appointed or investiture title. The first part of the investiture
title is Chinese transcription of Turkic titles. Thus, for
the first ruler listed below, Ku-tu-lu p’i-chia
ch’üeh is the Turkic Qutluγ bilgä
kül. The second part of the appointed title given in
quotation marks is a Chinese honorific epithet, in the given
example, “Huai-jen” being “cherishing benevolence
to the emperor.” The rulers are listed here in the
order of the year in which the reign began. — DCW]
