Broken Blood Vessels
After V-Beam

The use of lasers in dermatology has increased dramatically in the past decade. This is due to many innovations in technology that allow different lasers to perform different tasks. Lasers can improve many skin lesions, sometimes dramatically. Some lasers require several treatments to achieve best results while others may require fewer. Some lasers have minimal recovery time while others may require much more. It is important to discuss with your doctor the specifics of the condition you wish treated and the type of laser indicated for this purpose.

Lasers Available at the UW Dermatologic Surgery Clinic

Currently, several lasers are available through the UW Cosmetic Surgery and the UW Dermatologic Surgery Center:

  Candela V-Beam Pulsed Dye Laser

  • Port-wine stains
  • Facial spider veins
  • Redness and veins on the face from rosacea
  • Other vascular lesions

  Candela GentleLase Alexandrite Laser

  • Hair removal

  Candela GentleYAG Laser

  • Hair removal (darker skin types)

  Palomar Q-Switched Tattoo Laser

  • Tattoo removal

  Palomar Intense Pulsed-Light

  • Age and sun spots
  • Brown and red freckles
  • Broken blood vessels

An excellent review of the kinds of lasers used in dermatologic surgery, many of which are available through the UW Dermatologic Surgery Center, can be found on the website of The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
