Extending Hauling Operations on Thawing Roads
C.W. Blair, P.Eng.
Forest Engineering Research Institute of Canada
Good morning ladies and gentleman.  My name is Colin Blair and I am a researcher in the Transportation and Maintenance group of the Forest Engineering Research Institute of Canada or FERIC which is a lot easier to say.  I am based out of FERIC’s western division in Vancouver, BC.

Today, I would like to present some of our on-going work with Applying road-friendly technologies to extend hauling operations on thawing thin pavement roads.

Before diving into my presentation, I would like to thank several people for their invaluable assistance with this project.  I would like to thank Allan Bradley of Saskatchewan Highways for his work with CTI and helping to develop a field trial methodology.  Dr Tom Christison and Dr Joe Mahoney for providing their guidance and expertise with developing the field trial methodology.  The field trial would not have been possible without the support of the B.C. Ministry of Transportation, in particular: Dick Weichel, Jim Mader, and John Hallam.  I would also like to thank Eric Amlin, Brian Bulley and Rob Jokai of FERIC for their assistance with the field trial.
