UW School Law Division

Mission

CHARTER: Founded  in 1984, the School Law Division was created pursuant to an Interagency Cooperative Agreement between the Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the University of Washington.  This agreement, adopted pursuant to RCW 39.34.030, permits two state agencies to cooperatively administer mutually beneficial programs.

MISSION: The mission of the School Law Division is to provide quality inservice education to practicing professional educators and school attorneys in school law.  This mission assumes that knowledge of school law will diminish, if not prevent, some expensive lawsuits and resulting liability for school districts and taxpayers.

Ralph E. Julnes was the founding father of the School Law Division, and served as the Director until his untimely death in October 2002.
