AMERICORPS RETENTION PROJECT
The AmeriCorps Retention Project places members at colleges and Universities to implement exemplary mentoring initiatives.
The Project connects college students and youth to cultivate academic, workforce skills, and civic engagement. Our goal is to assist college students to overcome the barriers to college persistence and completion. This year Dolores Blueford and Ryan Jess are your Cascadia Retention Project Coordinators.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS- Distinguished Teaching Award 2013
Nominate a deserving faculty member for the Distinguished Teaching Award (DTA)! Each year the UW recognizes a deserving instructor whose teaching represents the best qualities of UW Bothell faculty. The DTA is a once-in-a-lifetime award, which is presented each Spring quarter. To nominate an instructor whose teaching inspires excellence, and supports active and continuous learning, write a one page nomination letter and email it to Elaine Haig-Widner. Tempest is searching for students interested in participating this fall. Our games are currently scheduled on Saturdays at various times. The purpose of Tempest is to provide a means for students to have fun, stay active, and meet other peers of similar interests. Ultimate (commonly referred to Frisbee) is a "spirit of the game." Come to listen spoken words poetry artist Jason Carney, a mainstay on the national poetry performance scene for the last ten years. Jason has appeared on HBOs RUSSELL SIMMOND DEF POETRY, is a four time national poetry slam finalist, honored as legend of slam poetry and has done workshops at high schools, juvenile detention centers, as well as colleges and universities in all fifty states. In a rehabilitation center in his youth Jasons life was changed forever by a gay man who was dying from AIDS. He used poetry to redefine his world and transformed the hate and racist ignorance of his southern upbringing. His life mission is to educate and participate in an honest conversation of race, class and gender. His performances uses the lessons of his past to break down barriers and biases and to break the silence of his youth that still permeates every aspect of American culture. The Halloween Masquerade will be a dance, off campus, at Courtyard Hall in Country Village, Bothell. It will be themed to Renaissance era along with the feel of Autumn harvest. Students will be encouraged to dress up, whether it be formal or costumes, as it is an event for the season of Halloween.
