ISCRM Flow Cytometry Core

What is Flow Cytometry?

Flow Cytometry is an advanced technology for counting, examining, and sorting individual cells. It has been the gold standard in cell analysis and now is being used as an analytical tool across numerous sectors of life sciences. As Cell exploration continues, researchers are driving the use of Flow Cytometry to support an expanding range of instrument applications.

Cell sorting involves physically separating a specific cell population from the remaining particles in suspension for the purpose of performing further procedures on these purified cells.

Our mission

Located in the new University of Washington South Lake Union campus, the SLU Flow Facility provides state of the art instrumentation and technical expertise to facilitate investigators in performing quality cell sorting and analysis. We support research investigators affiliated with the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine (ISCRM), as well as those from UW main campus, and investigators from surrounding institutes.

Important information for sorting

Any material requiring BSL-2 containment or any viable cells that could be classified as BSL-2 (this is all human cell lines, primary human samples, as well as some transfected animal samples) must be cleared through EH&S by submitting a Research Project Hazard Assessment (RPHA) form prior to being sorted at the facility.

Please refer to Cell Sorting Policies for more information.
