SMEA awards four scholarships to outstanding students each year:

The Alan Blankenship Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one student per year that is actively involved in the field of marine recreation and tourism. The recipient receives $1,000 during Spring quarter.

The Donald L. McKernan Award is awarded to once student per year for an outstanding thesis in Marine Affairs. The recipient receives $500 during Spring quarter. Professor McKernan was the first director of the Institute for Marine Studies, now named the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs. A plaque is prominently displayed at SMEA with the name of each recipient.

The Campbell Fellowship Award in Maritime Studies is awarded to students who are pursuing maritime studies at the University of Washington School of Marine and Environmental Affairs.

Other scholarships may become available throughout the year. The student office will inform current students of scholarship opportunities.

Additonally, students may apply for these scholarships while enrolled in the program:

The Wendy Graham Memorial Scholarship may be used to attend and present student research at a professional conference in the field of marine and environmental affairs.

The GSFEI Travel Awards may be used to defray travel fares of graduate students attending conferences or other professional meetings in order to present a paper or serve as an invited speaker.
