On June 7, 2012, SMEA celebrated the graduation of its Class of 2012 with an inspirational ceremony featuring Keynote Speaker Eric S. Laschever, MMA 1980. Twenty-four students earned their Masters of Marine Affairs in the 2011-2012 year, some of them pictured here in an impromptu group photo during the reception following the graduation ceremony. Three students fashioned special (and quite elaborate!) hair decorations for every member of the class to sport during the ceremony and reception. Director Tom Leschine and Dean Lisa Graumlich gave introductory remarks, and Prof. Leschine also announced the recipients of SMEA's 2012 Financial Awards. Mr. Laschever, now a Partner at the Seattle law firm of K&L Gates, gave a very moving Keynote Address touching on the course of his career since he graduated, and the work that is still left to be done by today's newly minted MMAs. The evening concluded with a lively reception. Congratulations to all the Class of 2012!
