Help Our Students Travel (HOST)
Alumni who live across the country in communities with teaching hospitals provide overnight lodging to fourth-year students who are visiting for residency interviews. Students often travel to 10 or more cities for interviews and the generosity of our alumni hosts saves them tens of thousands of dollars a year in hotel and travel expenses!
Students typically stay for one or two nights. Hosts are not expected to provide food or transportation (though when their schedules allow, some do). Students not only appreciate the free lodging, but also benefit from hearing from alumni about the cities they may soon call home.
If you have a spare bedroom, couch or air mattress, please join us! We will contact you when a student requests accommodations and you can decide if the timing works for you.
Timing and Confirmation
Residency interviews take place from late September through January. When we set up a student-alumni match, we will provide both the alumna/us and the student with each other’s contact information. The students are responsible for finalizing plans with their hosts and providing details about their stay.
