How Does SORCE Work?
SORCE collaborates with interested investigators functioning as a “one-stop shop” with expertise in:
- Outcomes research design
- Grant application/budget development
- IRB approval and study coordination
- Data Management & Analysis
- Statistical/epidemiologic support
SORCE trains the next generation of health services researchers:
- Funded 2-3 year training program with didactic and practical training using MPH/MS/PhD Department of Health Services in the School of Public Health and the K23, K12 and K30 funding mechanisms
- Mentored outcomes research projects with surgical residents, fellows and students
SORCE educates the community of surgeons, students and stakeholders:
- Quarterly seminars in health services research
- Monthly “work in progress” (WIP) sessions for surgical investigators
SORCE changes healthcare policy by working with other stakeholders to develop:
- SCOAP — a Washington State surgical process/outcomes tracking project
- SCIP — the national process of care project
- NSQIP — for the emerging American College of Surgeons accreditation project
- Cooperative agreements with CMS, Medicaid and private insurers
SORCE collaborates with health services and surgical outcomes researchers in subspecialties across departments and institutions through the UW Surgical Outcomes Research Collaborative.
