How Does SORCE Work?
SORCE collaborates with interested investigators functioning as a “one-stop shop” with expertise in:
- Health services and patient-oriented outcomes research design
- Grant application/budget development
- Study development and implementation
- Data management & statistical support
- Quality Improvement initiative design and delivery
- Community-wide research collaborative building
SORCE trains the next generation of health services researchers:
- Outcomes Research Roundtables: Changing Surgeon and Surgical System Behavio - Theory and Application (Fall 2009)
- Mentored outcomes research projects with surgical residents, fellows and students
- Undergraduate internship program
SORCE educates the community of surgeons, students and stakeholders:
- Monthly “work in progress” (WIP) sessions for surgical investigators (see also the Outcomes Research Collaborative)
SORCE changes healthcare policy by working with other stakeholders to develop:
- SCOAP — a Washington State surgical process/outcomes tracking project
- SCIP — the national process of care project
- NSQIP — for the emerging American College of Surgeons accreditation project
- Cooperative agreements with CMS, Medicaid and private insurers
