The Changing Landscape in Nursing: Using Case Scenerios and Patient Simulators to Enhance Clinical EducationJuvann Wolff - Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems
Clinical education in nursing has historically taken place at the bedside. With more advanced practice responsibilities, nursing students, advanced practice nurses (Nurse Practitioners) medical students and residents may learn procedures, and practice critical thinking skills in no risk environements such as a learning lab/skills lab. Providing an environment where students may become more skilled in diagnostic procedures and decision making with simulated patients and a safe learning environment is critical. My interest is in developing teaching/learning scenerios for these students in a "layered" fashion, building learning opportunities for professional groups to work with each other and as an intradisciplinary team. This layering approach is new and evaluation is pending. My goal is to essentially provide a learning environment that more closely resembles the hospital or clinic environment where different specialty groups practice together as a team.
