The Division
of Spanish and Portuguese Studies is committed to the production
and transmission of knowledge of the Spanish and Portuguese languages
and the literatures and cultures of Spain, Portugal, Latin America
and US Latinos. We strive to fulfill this mission by providing University
of Washington students the highest quality instruction, by pursuing
imaginative and informed scholarship and publication, and by bringing
to the university and the broader community cultural events that represent
the richness and beauty of our areas of study. Our goal is to create
knowledgeable and compassionate citizens, and foster in them tolerance,
respect for cultural diversity, a capacity for critical thinking,
and a sense of themselves as responsible members of a global community.
Additionally we strive to create a safe and secure environment for
our students, administrative staff, and faculty.
