  Credit by Exam

SPAN 201, 202, 203 or SPAN 301-302

Students may take a an exam to receive credit for either 201, 202, and 203, or 301 and 302 level courses. Both levels may not be taken in the same quarter. We do not offer this examination option in the summer.

Please follow these steps to start the process of credit by examination:
  1. During the FIRST WEEK of the quarter, students pick up the application form in Schmitz 264.
    1. If taking the 200-level test, obtain Kristee Boehm's signature (C-232, Padelford).
    2. If taking the 300-level test, obtain Maria Gillman’s signature (B-229, Padelford).
  2. Suzanna Martinez signs for the Chair. Please bring the form to Suzanna (C-104F Padelford) for the second signature after the language coordinator has signed it. Students may leave the application form in Suzanna’s inbox located in the main office for her signature. Students will be contacted when the form is ready for pick-up.
  3. The next step is to pay the fee at the Cashier’s office in Schmitz Hall.
  4. Then take the signed form back to the Graduations office (Schmitz 264) no later than Friday of the second week.
  5. Contact the Testing Center, Schmitz 440 (543-1170) to set up an appointment to take the exam. The exam usually takes place on the fourth/fifth week of the quarter.
  6. The result of the exam is available around the eighth week of the quarter. The grade and credits are posted on the student's transcripts by the Graduations Office. To find out the result of the exam, students may check their status on MyUW at the end of the quarter in which they take the exam.
Please contact Suzanna at spsadv@u.washington.edu, or 543-2075, for further questions.
