Advisory Board
The Division of Spanish and Portuguese has recently formed an
Advisory Board to help it coordinate outreach, communication, and
fundraising. A higher level of effectiveness with its supporters
outside the University community is essential in making sure quality
education in Hispanic and Portuguese studies can continue to be
offered at the University. The Advisory Board is looking for volunteers
in the following areas to help jump start the planning
process.
Communication Team
The Division currently communicates with
its community of interest through its website, periodic newsletters
and selected mailings. We need several volunteers to help analyze
the effectiveness of our current systems and to provide a blueprint
for improvements. This task will involve interviewing current faculty
and staff, developing an understanding of the various processes
and documentation currently in place, and making recommendations
to the Advisory Board. The following areas need to be addressed:
-
Understand how the current University and Division mailing and contact
lists are developed, make recommendations for how to consolidate
and efficiently maintain relevant data for various communication
objectives.
-
Make recommendations as to how web addresses of interested parties
can be efficiently collected and maintained. This will likely involve
systems considerations.
-
Review the objectives and effectiveness of our website, newsletter,
and outbound communications efforts.
Annual Campaign
The Division has historically run an Annual Fundraising Campaign in
the fall. This mail solicitation has raised a modest amount of money
over the last several years. We need at least one volunteer to analyze
the current situation, interact with the Communication Team, and make
recommendations as to how to enhance the effectiveness of the Campaign.
We are looking for energetic volunteers with an interest in furthering
the educational goals of the Division of Spanish and Portuguese at
the University of Washington. Completing the planning process with
an augmented outsider perspective in these areas is a
critical step in enhancing the goals of the Division and the objectives
of the Advisory Board. If you are interested in helping we need you!
