SPARX CERTIFICATE
"THE SPARX PARTICPATION AWARD"

The SPARX program began as a means for health science students interested in careers in rural or underserved areas to meet and learn about some of the health care issues of these populations, and how they--in their respective health programs--were preparing to work in these areas. This informal network developed into a substantial program, with particpants engaging in various community service projects. The Administration in the health science schools designated the SPARX Certificate Program as a way to acknowledge individual student efforts in support of SPARX and the underserved.

SPARX offers a certificate to students who earn a minimum of 12 points in one academic year. Points are earned by participating in a variety of SPARX events. Each SPARX activity has a point value and attendance at the event (signing in) is how student effort is recorded. The program manager maintains attendance records throughout the year. The certificate program is voluntary. About 10-20 students earn this award each year.

The certificate is sent to students who qualify. A copy and accompanying letter are sent to the respective deans. The certificate is a great addition to resumes.

Simply attend events to earn points towards your certificate. Points are assigned to each activity based upon the requisite investment of time and energy and range from 1 point for seminars to 4 points for involvement in service projects.
