Signing Up for Veterans Educational Benefits

Tuition Exemptions and Reductions

Students sign up for veterans educational benefits at the Business Services and Veterans' Affairs Office, 520 Schmitz Hall after their registration is final. Sign up is required for the academic year and separately for summer term.

Other forms like credit evaluations and course approvals may be required depending on the total number of credits earned and students' major status.

Signing Up Process Requirements
Active Duty Bring identification to Business Services and Veterans' Affairs. Complete our sign up form every qtr after registration is final.
Continuing Students Bring identification to Business Services and Veterans' Affairs. Complete our sign up form.
Transfer Students Bring identification to Business Services and Veterans' Affairs. Complete our sign up form, and sign 1995 for change of program or place of training.
New Students Bring identification to Business Services and Veterans' Affairs. Complete our sign up form, VA application and required documents.
VA Credit Evaluation Submit credit evaluation signed by dept advisor. Required when students declare major or when they have earned 90 credits or more and are premajors.
VA Course Approval Submit course approval (class schedule) signed by dept advisor. Required every qtr if students have earned 90 credits or more OR are in a major
Verifying Enrollment Call 1-877-823-2378 or verify on "WAVE" on the VA website. Verifying each month releases monthly payments. Chapters 30, 1606, and 1607 are required to verify enrollment last day of every month. Report changes in enrollment only if change affects payrate.
Advance Pay Request advance from our office 40 days before qtr starts. Advance is partial first 2 mos of qtr. Do not need to be registered to request advance pay. Generally available autumn qtr only. Not eligible if attending summer term.
VA Work Study Students can work up to 25 hrs per week during school periods, & full time during school breaks. Approved work study sites available from our office. Receiving VA educational benefits and enrolled for at least 3/4 time. Pay is minimum wage, tax free and students are paid in 50 hour increments.
Tutorial Assistance Receiving VA educational benefits. Enrolled for at least 1/2 time rate. Deficiency in subject making tutoring necessary. Approval form signed off by instructor for class being tutored.
